About the course

This course covers ordinary differential equations of first and second order, linear systems of differential equations, the solution of initial value problems via Laplace transforms, and some applications of differential equations.

The required textbook is Fundamentals of Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems, second edition, R. Kent Nagle and Edward B. Saff, Addison-Wesley, 1996, ISBN 0-201-80879-X, and the laboratory manual is Solving Differential Equations with Maple V, David Barrow et al., Brooks/Cole, 1998, ISBN 0-534-34555-7.

We will cover Chapters 1-5, 7, and sections 12.1-12.3 in Nagle & Saff and Chapters 0-8 in the lab manual. If time permits, we may cover some additional sections in the textbook.

The prerequisite for this course is Math 251 (third semester calculus).

The class meets Tuesday and Thursday in BLOC 131 from 12:45 to 14:00.

Details about assignments will be posted on the Web as the semester progresses.
